Basaksehir continues to lead the league

Turkey's top football competition Spor Toto Super Lig ended its ninth week Monday night, with surprise leaders Medipol Basaksehir continuing to top the table.

The league's dark horse demolished Akhisar Belediyespor 5-1 on Sunday to bring their point total to 23 and lead the league two points ahead of Besiktas, which dropped two points in their 1-1 draw with Genclerbirligi on Friday.

Basaksehir are also the league's most scoring team with 22 goals. The team only conceded 5 goals, making it the best in that category as well.

Besiktas, although remaining unbeaten in the league after nine match days, are currently placed second with 21 points.

Another title-chasing Istanbulite team Galatasaray managed to squeeze past Adanaspor 1-0, thanks to a goal from flamboyant winger Armindo Bruma.

Galatasaray, having been beaten by Trabzonspor last week, managed to get back on their winning days and brought their point total to 20. 'The Lions' are currently sitting at the third spot.

The league's 2010 champions Bursaspor won against Atiker Konyaspor on Saturday to save their fourth place with 19 points. With this win, Bursaspor accumulated 7 points in their last three matches.

Fenerbahce, meanwhile, started a winning streak after triumphing against Karabukspor with 5-0. The Istanbulite giants have now won back-to-back matches, placing fifth with 15 points.

Match day 10

The league's 10th match day will start with a bang on Friday, as Galatasaray are set to take on the league-leading Basaksehir in the former's Turk Telekom Arena.

Besiktas, on the other hand, will play Trabzonspor at Vodafone Arena in Istanbul on Saturday while Fenerbahce will take on Akhisar Belediyespor in an away game Sunday.
