PSG win Coupe de la Ligue

Beating Bastia 4-0 in the final at Stade de France, Paris Saint-Germain win domestic trophy two years in a row

Paris Saint-Germain have been crowned 2015 Coupe de la Ligue (French League Cup) champions by beating Bastia 4-0 in the final at Stade de France in Saint-Denis, Paris on Saturday night.

Bastia center-back Sebastien Squillaci brought down Ezequiel Lavezzi in the penalty area so the referee awarded PSG penalty kick in the 18th minute. Squillaci was sent off.

Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic converted the penalty successfully in the 21st minute, putting Paris Saint-Germain in the lead.

PSG doubled the score after Ibrahimovic's shot outside the box in the 41st minute: 2-0.

In 81', Paris Saint-Germain's Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani made it three with a header. In injury time Cavani determined the score of the match as 4-0 with a classy shot in a one-on-one position.

Defending winners Paris Saint-Germain claimed their fifth Coupe de la Ligue title. PSG are the most successful team in the history of the domestic tournament.

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva lifted the trophy in the ceremony.

Earlier this week, the French Football Federation banned Ibrahimovic for four games due to his remarks taking issue with a referee performance. The ban effectively sidelines the star striker for the more than half of the rest of the season. He will be back for the last three weeks.

PSG will go against Barcelona on Wednesday in the Champions League quarter-finals. Ibrahimovic will be out due to a red card in the first leg.
