Liverpool topple Man City 2-1 to reach fifth place

Liverpool win against Premier League heavyweights Manchester City 2-1 at Anfield and climb to fifth position in league table

Liverpool defeated English Premier League heavyweights Manchester City 2-1 at their home ground Anfield on Sunday, reaching fifth place in the standings.

Liverpool's midfielder Jordan Henderson scored the opening goal of the match in the 11th minute. Visitors Manchester City's Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko equalized in the 25th minute. Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho scored the winning goal of the match for Liverpool in the 75th minute. Liverpool's Turkish-German midfielder Emre Can played for 90 minutes.

Liverpool now have 48 points, and are two points behind their rivals Manchester United who are currently fourth in the league. Second-place Manchester City have 55 points.

Arsenal cruised past Everton 2-0 on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium, London. French target man Olivier Giroud and Czech veteran midfielder Tomas Rosicky both scored for the Gunners. London side Arsenal are now third place in the standings with 51 points.

Manchester United beat Sunderland 2-0 at home on Saturday. United veteran Wayne Rooney scored both goals of the match at Old Trafford.

The games between league leaders Chelsea against Leicester City and Tottenham's match against Queens Park Rangers have both been postponed due to the League Cup final between Chelsea and Tottenham on Sunday.

Chelsea were crowned as the League Cup winners after beating city rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final on Sunday at Wembley Stadium, London.
