Turkish Airlines Open 2014 to kick off in November

Around 80 professional golfers to compete in Turkey between Nov. 13 and Nov. 16

The Turkish Airlines Open 2014 will kick off in November in the Mediterranean coastal town of Belek, in the province of Antalya in southwestern Turkey.

The tournament, which is organized by the Turkish Ministry of Sports and Youth and is sponsored by Turkish Airlines, will bring together the world's greatest golf stars between Nov. 13 and Nov. 16.

Turkish Airlines said in a statement Tuesday that the tour will be held in the challenging Montgomerie Maxx Royal course -- crafted by eight-time European Tour winner and Ryder Cup legend, Colin Montgomerie.

Turkish Airlines said that around 80 professional golfers will compete in this year's tournament, including Tiger Woods, Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood.

The president of the Turkish Golf Federation, Ahmet Ali Agaoglu, said that they are happy to host in Turkey the best golfers in the world.

Turkish Airlines Open is one of the four tournaments of the Final Series on The Race to Dubai.

"As the penultimate event of the Final Series -- which includes the BMW Masters, WGC-HSBC Champions and the DP World Tour Championship -- it's the final chance for some players to secure their place at the DP World Tour Championship finale in Dubai," the organizers said in a statement.

A combined prize of $30.5 million will be given to the winners of Final Series: the BMW Masters is worth $7 million, the WGC-HSBC Championship $8.5 million, Turkish Airlines $7 million and the DP World Tour Championship $8 million.
