FIFA President Sepp Blatter stated on Tuesday that they trust the Russian government with the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
While talking to French news agency AFP, Blatter responded to claims that several countries, especially England, would boycott the tournament due to the crisis between Ukraine and Russia.
"A boycott will never have any positive effect. We trust the country and its government," the head of FIFA said.
Emphasizing that FIFA will fully support Russia in holding the finals in the country, Blatter remarked, "Russia is the world's biggest country. You know, Russia is in the eye of the international media. Football can not only unite Russia but show the whole world that it is stronger than any protest movement."
In addition, FIFA's Swiss boss expressed his organization's contentedness with Russia's preparations for the World Cup.
"I can say that in comparison with Brazil, Russia is considerably ahead of schedule with four years remaining before the event's start," Sepp Blatter added.
