In the 20th minute, Netherlands central midfielder Daley Blind was subbed out due to injuries. Blind was replaced by Jordy Clasie.
Fifteen minutes later, Netherlands' explosive winger Robben made a classy lob from outside the box, and found the net, 2-0.
In the 42nd minute, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar made it three for Netherlands. The Dutch striker tapped the ball into the net, 3-0. Afellay crossed the ball from the baseline.
After dominating the first half, 'Oranje' headed to their dressing room, 3-0 ahead.
In the 57th minute, Robben's freekick rattled the crossbar. Ten minutes later Robben skipped past many Latvian defenders in the area, and made a low cross shaving the bar. It was a good chance.
In the 78th minute, van Persie nodded the ball to the six yard box, and 23-year-old Dutch defender Jeffrey Bruma easily tapped the ball into the net, 4-0. That was his first goal for Netherlands.
With eight minutes to go, Robben smashed the ball into the area and put the ball in the back of the net, 5-0.
At the end of the game, Huntelaar scored the sixth goal into the Latvian box, 6-0. Clasie made the assist.
The victorious Netherlands increased their points in the group to six and secured their third position as of matchday four.
Galatasaray's Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder played for his country against Latvia, but he did not score.
