David Moyes has been sacked as Manchester United manager only 10 months after taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson.
Reports surfaced on Monday that the Scotsman was set to lose his job at Old Trafford and United released a statement confirming the news on Tuesday morning.
"Manchester United announces that David Moyes has left the club," said the club on its official Twitter feed. "The club would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role."
It has been reported that veteran United midfielder Ryan Giggs will be named as interim manager by the club for the remainder of the season later on Tuesday.
Press Association Sport say they understand that Moyes was sacked by vice-chairman Ed Woodward during a meeting at the club's Carrington training ground on Tuesday morning shortly after 8am.
